Not really quarantined, but focusing on the studio. And we are going to repaint the living room. I’m posting three paintings today. I paint in tandem. You may the same hue go from piece to piece. I have several going, so that when the news and crazies are too much to take, I don’t have to BEGIN a painting, I can jump in and submerge myself. CO2 has gone from being a pretty little thing, to a person haunted by the effects of CO2 on the environment. No Spleen Quarantine harks back to my Talisman series. The rainhat is the talisman. My spleen was removed in 2016. Didn’t do a thing for my ITP, but now places me smack in the middle of those with compromised immune systems. Antigens are what is destroying my platelets, and virus and pandemic is evident.
CO2 painting
I plan to stay very busy in my studio to avoid the coronavirus. The idea of naming this CO2 came out of the blue, or not blue if smog is high. But it was a vapid little painting. Some bold additions have helped.
Antigens
A beautiful day, and everyone is scared of the coronavirus. My studio is isolated, so I began this painting. Antigens play havoc with my immune system in the best of times. Add pandemic and virus, divide into have’s and have-nots, and this is the beginning of a painting. The canvas is 41″ x 54″.
Medical Debt Collector MDC
My experience has been the insurance company or hospital screwed up the coding on my medical debts. I pay those that seem correct, but who the hell can tell. They sic a MDC on me until I prove them wrong. Harrassment, intimidation, threats, and towers of paper work.
Medical debts
You are smug that you have no medical debts and have never been hounded by a medical debt collector. Must be nice. Cyclops is the head of the MDC, a larger painting I will be posting. This one may seem cartoonish, but I wouldn’t enjoy a painting that is as awful as these people!
How I Made This
We were snowed in the other day and made this new feature on my website. I take photos as I paint. We gathered a few and made a few slide shows. There is no text or voice over. The idea is to share with you the stomping around I do to make my art. The installation Chemo Today was the beginning of me taking myself seriously as an artist. Fleeing is about refugees of war, famine and fire. If You Just is about all the advice people have given me as I deal with ITP.
Painting called CO2
It’s gloomy and I was trying for something not so gloomy. CO2 is necessary for plant growth, which generates oxygen for humans. Humans are generating too much CO2. Maybe the warm rainy weather is normal and not affected by human activity.
Donna Livengood, Art Patron
Gregg’s mother regularly supports our art work. When I told her about a sale on canvas, she sent a check! We got a 30 yard roll for half price. Gregg has made the stretchers from ripping 2×4’s. The pancake compressor drives the stapler. He’s made 4 stretchers, so far, and stretched 2 today. They are 41″x54″. The canvas is 60″wide and we cut a four foot piece. As you can see we need some to pull around the back. The pliers are a specialty. We don’t remember when he made the first canvas for me, but it could have been 47 years ago. Just for comparison a ready made 16″x20″ stretched canvas sells for $10. I still have to gesso (prime) them, but we save a lot of money doing it ourselves.
Thanks Donna, for your encouragement and support!
Carbon Dioxide
Too much is a greenhouse gas. Some CO2 is important. We need to pay attention.
Debt Collector
Insurance companies and hospitals are so busy playing one-up games with each other that they use debt collectors to “win”. Just like mob leg-breakers, medical debt collectors use intimidation and lies. Like the big bad wolf they huff and puff until you can find someone to be on your side and make one of the big boys back down. Health care for profit is ….. wrong.
