Disruption

Everyone has disruption in life.  After hearing Dr. Blasey Ford testify to her sexual assault, I realized I’d had something similar happen to me.  I had repressed it, and always thought that the bad behavior of some men was my fault.

Map

This is the beginning of a painting on paper.  Sometimes they are part of the process to a larger work.   I feel like this is the map that’s governing my life and our govt. now.  Chaotic, mindless, and just maybe, heading somewhere.

Disruption

I identified with the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.   She said it disrupted her life for years.  This is about my personal disruption.

New layout table

In the background you can see a canvas stretcher, looks like a trellis.  It is 46″ x 54″  and it was aggravating to build on his existing work table, which was 36″ wide.  So we built a “wing” that will fold out and give us a 5.5’x7′ layout space.  When we finish the stretching we’ll put tools for stretching in a tub, and store under the work table.  The wing will fold down, out of the way for his woodworking projects.

The Small Works Show is coming up in Nov. and Dec.  at Haywood County Arts Council.  This painting, acrylic on canvas, is 8″x10″ .  It will be framed.

Disruption

I was thinking of this as a disruption from sexual assault.  Then came two hurricanes.  My hematologist is an oncologist also, and I see many people there with cancer.  Disruptions happen.  Some can be protested, most have to be lived through.  This is a sketch on paper.  I’m not much of a draftsman, more of an interest in color.

HART Theater lobby

Haywood Arts Repertory Theater has a beautiful setting with a spacious lobby.   Today Gregg and I hung our work as the Livengood Studio.  Deciding on so many things can make hanging my own work stressful, but we got it done and it looks nice.  I was tired and didn’t get an “after” picture.  The show will  run during the production of  The Bad Seed.   The Haywood County Arts Council coordinates the art shows with the theater.
