An abstract painting may be difficult for others to get into, but is has been necessary for me to deal with the shit from Sept. ’24 to the present. Hurricane Helene Helicopters is about the chaos of the flooding and high winds. We can hear the helicopters which were bringing aid. The sound echoes off the mountains even when they weren’t visible. The boxes are a recurring symbol in my work. They are prayers.
Hurricane five hundred miles inland
I’ve struggled to express the giant mess that Hurricane Helene caused.

simmered
One of the luxuries of being able to work on my art every day, is that I can let a painting simmer, until I’m ready to get back to it. This landscape has been bugging me, just one little part. I hung it in our living room, and I knew I would have to do more work. Now I’m not afraid of “destroying” a painting. I hear deKooning say “kill it, and bring it back to life.” To me it’s like kids and dogs, you can’t let them or YOUR painting win.
River
I started this painting last year w/ some misguided idea that I could sell something that I wasn’t invested in. Gregg nailed me and I’m glad. This is starting to be MY river.
Several
I work on several paintings at once. Some need to dry and some need time to percolate in my mind. “Vision” has monofilament running thru it. The socket is not part of the art! River is part of the spirals.2-9-10
River
I’m stuck on spirals. Besides DNA, they describe paths, like a rivers.
