orphans from the compost heap

I never was able to grow an avocado tree from a seed.  My compost heap did.  I dug it up, and put it in a bucket, to go inside for the winter.  A while later another plant presented itself in that pot,

Squash blossom

a squash of some kind.  This morning the squash bloomed.  Summer color in Dec.!

Flowers, again

Karen gave me some bulbs of the Susana Lily.  It is brown with orange highlights.  I used to paint a lot of flowers.   I think this is not the same old thing.

Gallery Support

Thanks to Cathey Bolton, owner of Art on Depot, who represents me.  We popped into the gallery today because Donna, Gregg’s mom was visiting.  She believes it is the best gallery in Waynesville, and I agree!  Cathey made my day by asking to buy this painting of mine!  We are hoping for a good season of art sales through her gallery!Flowers in Fog

New work at Art on Depot

This painting of a sunflower just went to Art on Depot.  See it tomorrow night during Art after dark.  The painting is acrylic on paper, and NOT framed, which makes it affordable, and you pick the framing!sunflower--blog

Open house next Sunday

I was baffled as to how to show a bunch of paintings of ladies with attitude together.  This bulletin board in my studio is working great.  Each “portrait” is mounted on foam core, sleeved in plastic, and T-pinned to the board.  This is for simplicity and affordability.  Each person can choose their own framing options.

These are variations on a painting I did years ago of a blanket flower.  You can see how my work evolves and grows.

The Whole Bloomin’ Thing

This is my second year doing the street fair that celebrates spring.  These are small multi-media works, that will be very affordable.  Flowers and octopi are spring like, right?4-26-13

Thanks Nick

I  went to the opening of Nick DePaolo’s one man show at Gallery 86 in Waynesville, NC on Fri.  We both are learning to paint more in acrylics.  Long discussion on how to get the paint to run.  I experimented today.  Too much medium, I think.  It’s sooo easy with oils, but my propane heater makes oils a no no, til summer.  The flower is a serius, a bold bloom about 8″ across.2-25-13

Artist messes with nature

I may question the reason or right to copyright a genetically modified organism (GMO).  There is a case before the Supreme Court right now.  I’m messing with a painting of a bloom from a tulip poplar.  Same or different?2-19-13
