Superstorm Sandy knocked out one quarter of the power grid and communications. I’ve been working on the idea of Modern Muses on these round pieces. Maybe this is the throw down between Mother Nature and Calliope, the Muse of Communication.
Schism
My sons who were best friends growing up are not talking. Women, I hate to say, have caused the schism. Gregg and I are going to wait until they figure it out. It’s not my FAULT. I feel like there is an axe between my eyes.
Modern Muses
I finished writing a grant to do more work on the Modern Muses. Asking someone for money to make an art piece makes me get very focused. What is a muse? Do they have less power now, as most women do? What are their working conditions and job descriptions? It came to me that the modern Calliope, would be the muse of communication. And what better emblem than an antenna. This is a maquette, (mock up) of an idea.
My boys are friends.
Here’s the painting I did a long time ago. Yesterday someone posted the original photo.
NoHa is over
I just got back into my blog. Something had hijacked it, but Forrest fixed it. I picked up my work from Gallery 86 Sunday. I wish I’d sold something, but it was a creative body of work. I used a lot more collage than ever before. I was let down, but I will go back to the Muses. I threw in a self portrait.
Thre
I must be nuts.
Fines Creek Bluegrass Jam is Aug. 24 &25. Then I’m part of a group show, NoHa, that we start installing Aug. 27. Opening is Sept. 7. It is exciting being an artist. No 9-5 or regular paycheck!
Color addict
I’ve been doing a different kind of work with the Modern Muses. They are more assemblage. I needed a color fix!.
Quilt Square
The Dead Man in the Creek quilt square was delivered by Kay Miller on Fri. July 15. This is the second work of public art in Fines Creek. The first is the War Memorial. All communities benefit from public art.
Three years in this studio
Charlotte recommended that to be a serious artist, I needed a serious studio space. This is an old classroom, 20’x30′ with hardwood floors and four windows that are eight feet high. In the winter, my Tai Chi class meet in my studio. The advice was incredible! Here’s my left leg, and class.
Breast tax
I pay a 23% Breast Tax, for a pre-existing condition.
