Forget the Middle East, the rights of women in the USA are disappearing at a heck of a rate. Larry Summers, who thinks that women cannot be educated in math, is set to take over the Federal Reserve. This series, Eye Wonder, is about the strictures put upon women.
Provoke
The Eye Wonder series continues. This one has great words, provoke and boundaries, but they were chosen for their color, not their meaning. We are working on a poster and a video to show the process and some of the decision trees. These are a lot like life, you have to deal with what you are given.
Black and White
The Eye Wonder series is about serendipity, a nice word for the weird stuff that happens to us. Most of my work is an explosion of color, but this white enamel on white paper was an interesting surprise. A black Sharpie pen was used to outline the white enamel. The letters and words are random, mostly.
Thanks to the Hammett clan for including me in their picnic last night. We were done before the thunderstorm hit. It was a doozy!
So
This is a detail of “So” from the Eye Wonder series. This was a very different approach, with the collage in the glasses being the first stage. The enamel drips came later, and Sharpie pen for the final. These female figures tap into some of my worries and insecurities.
Collage first
The Eye Wonder series continues to explore ways to depict eyes or eyeglasses. This one, nameless so far, started with the collage, and then the enamel was dripped. The collage has been highlighted with an orange Sharpie pen.
See previous posts for other approaches. We are planning on making a You-Tube video about the process. Hopefully we can show the real way creativity takes place in my studio, by guess or by golly! If we can find the parts to the camera, and the editing software, and……………..
How this series is made.
Forrest suggested that we do a video to show the process of creating each image in this series, which I call Eye Wonder. Of course parts are missing from the camera and our editing software is out of date. I am going to post five of the series today, in the order they were done. Each one turns out unique. I am adding more media, as I go.
Video?
When Forrest was making salsa at my house, I showed him my Eye Wonder series. He suggested we make a You-tube video of the process. I love the idea and Gregg’s background is in film. We want to show the process of making art and a video.
Cori Saraceni suggested the detail picture. I have such great supporters for my art!
Eye Wonder What Happened?
My sons, who were very close growing up, do not speak. It breaks my heart. I have done a series of paintings, of eyes, whether going in or out of my soul, I cannot say. Vacancy where there was love? Here’s one with a detail.
Studio visit
I had a wonderful time yesterday visiting Cori Saraceni in her studio. We sparked ideas off of each other. She was frustrated that I don’t show details of my work. I had never thought of it! So this is “Hurricane Sandy” and the detail is her mouth. This piece is collage on plywood. The perfectly round high grade plywood is being sold by the Waynesville, NC, Habitat Restore.
commissions
I accepted this commission with reservations. The ceramic frog was a gift, and it needs a setting. The lily pad was a fun time to play with paint.
Yesterday, by happenstance, an artist visited my studio. He liked this self portrait with small mirrors.
