This is a flame azalea that will go in the Master Gardeners show in April. No, it’s a representation of a flame azalea. I’ve been looking at the nexus where humanity bangs into nature. This is a painting, not a flower.
Garden spot
This is for the Master Gardners show at Gallery 86 in Waynesville, NC on April 2. It’s been nice painting from a photo taken in the summer, while the high temp today was 26.
Truth in January
I am painting these flame azaleas from a photo. Now it’s cold, wet, and dark, what was it like when this photo was taken, and it was the height of blooming season? What is the truth about a garden?
Iris
This is for the Master Gardner’s show. I’m getting better at acrylics.
flame azaleas
I’m doing some paintings for the Master Gardners show. This is acrylic on gessoed paper.
Acrylic washes
I am impressed with the color subtlety from these washes. Some of the paints are murky and don’t make good washes, but this red did.
paper
This is one of the photos from the Master Gardners. HCAC is hosting a show of artworks based on various gardens. I started this on gessoed paper as a sketch. The washes are interesting. I’m using acrylics, which I still contend with.
color fields
I’m still struggling w/ acrylics. This is an effort to loosen up.
Grids
The QR codes are grid, as are the crossword puzzles I do every day. A grid is a human imposition on nature. The white squares are mat board, one inch squares, glued to the painting. We will see where we go from here!
Acrylics, still
I’m starting to handle acrylics like I do oils. At first I tried to use a wet brush, and all I got were thin washes. I bought these canvases at Big Lots, thinking they were cheap, but one is a parallelagram, so no value.
