Senses

What happens when you ignore your senses?  Instead of watching an electronic device, use your sense of sight to look around you.  What is going on in nature around you?  More trees, or less?  Other senses.  Is your environment quieter and peaceful, or noisier and more stressful.   Can you affect anything?Oculus-4

Reason women make lousy artists?

I pulled this quote off of an article about education.  The author is named at the end.  Damn, if I’d known this, I could have gone into voc-ed, saved myself a lot of time and money.

“No woman has been a significant original thinker in any of the world’s great philosophical traditions,” he wrote. “Women have produced a smaller number of important visual artists, and none that is clearly in the first rank. No female composer is even close to the first rank. Social restrictions undoubtedly damped down women’s contributions in all of the arts, but the pattern of accomplishment that did break through is strikingly consistent with what we know about the respective strengths of male and female cognitive repertoires.”

Murray’s 2008 book that Abbott cites, Real Education, argues that students with lower IQ’s are not as educable as smarter children

Scrutinize

I was working on this along with Searching.  Scrutiny is a synonym of the word search, and this Eye Wonder is in the same theme.Scrutinize

Searching

The news is filled with people searching for missing loved ones.  I don’t want to imagine what they are going through.  I am continuing on the Eye Wonder series, and this one is influenced by the uncertainties of searching.Searching

Latex paints

Much of this painting was done with house paint samples.  They are creamy and fun to work with.

Black corrugated plastic board

You know the yard signs for realtors and politicos?  This is the same material, only black.  The paint sticks okay, but scratches off easily.  I’ve used latex paint samples from Lowes, dripped enamel, gold craft paint and some acrylics.  This is a step in the ongoing Eye Wonder series.1-20-14

Recyled plastic sign board

I primed this plastic sign board.  You can see how the brush skipped across the corrugations.  The paint doesn’t stick perfectly, but this was a stab at loosening up after the Eye Wonder series.  The self portrait was pretty straight forward, but the addition of the enamel drips is working nicely.12-30-13

In progress

I’m still working on mastering acrylic paints, instead of them mastering me!  The eye is from the Eye Wonder series idea, of observing (and wondering what I can do about it?).12-4-13
