Portraits are hard!  Oh well, it’s a Christmas present, maybe he’ll be polite.

I’ve planned a 4 part portrait.  Needless to say, I’ve left the head for last.   However, anyone that knows him would recognize his feet.

I’m not kidding!

This is one of four parts that I plan for his portrait.  A little Hockney influence, different views of one subject.

I offered to do portraits of my family for Christmas.  Money’s tight, but I have paint.  I work from photos.  This is F. and his prize winning velociraptor.

Gregg and I figured we have built or remodeled 13 kitchens.  When you think you are finished, you still have weeks of details to finish.  I am realizing that I need to finish the details on my paintings, those things no one else knows about, one way or the other.  Impatience is not my friend.

Last night was a lovely opening of Art on Depot.  I really enjoyed meeting the other artists, Ilisa and Jason.  We have in common the desire to make more stuff!  I’m not denigrating our work, I still feel the word “art” is a bombshell.

I’ve given Miss Abby another coat of paint. 

I needed to take a break from the figures.  The tobacco barn is tiny, 10″x8″.  The log butts are 80″x12″.

I had left the “floor” unpainted, but decided it was tooooo white.  Also the red sleeve by her head was a problem, and the white space behind her head.  Most importantly, does she look hopeful?

I’ve come to a strange connection between the Talisman series and the Hoping series.  I call it the Blessings of NOT, those things that did NOT happen to you, yet.  Some call it fate but I’m pretty sure that if you hold your tongue just right, you can see everything as a blessing.  George Baselitz asked who got to say that the sky in a PAINTING had to be at the top.  These are paintings, people, not doctrine.
