Crumpled grid

Superstorm Sandy knocked out one quarter of the power grid and communications.  I’ve been working on the idea of Modern Muses on these round pieces.  Maybe this is the throw down between Mother Nature and Calliope, the Muse of Communication.11-12-12

Quilt Square

The Dead Man in the Creek quilt square was delivered by Kay Miller on Fri. July 15.   This is the second work of public art in Fines Creek.  The first is the War Memorial.  All communities benefit from public art.delivery-of-qs-7-15-12

I’ll try to post.

I post on two computers, laptop and desktop, and WordPress is NOT HAPPY.  Or I have a scummy virus, thanks A…holes.  Anyway, the Gorgon may lose her post it notes.  They were entirely toooo cheerful.7-5-12

Gorgon

I found these round pieces of plywood at the Habitat Resale shop.  I also ran across and idea in an old journal of the Muses.  So I have nine rounds and I’m referring to the 21st century muses.  Polyhymnia is the muse of womanly things, but thinking of how to live on 77 cents on a dollar, with the cost of necessities not the least bit easier on the female side, the muse had become a Gorgon.  The kids encyclopedia’s from the library on snakes was both cool and CREEPY.  Thanks to the Fines Creek Branch of the Haywood Public Library.6-20-12

April Showers

I started on this in March, an observation of the coming of spring.  With the storms of late, the dark block in the upper left is a reference to a QR code, or a thunderstorm.April Showers

April Showers

Even tho it isn’t April yet, the drips on this panel made me think of showers.  The blocks interrupt the flow of the paint.  Humans aren’t very successful at controlling nature, especially the weather.April Showers

Circle

I need to come up with a snappy title for this piece.  It is an interesting thing to work on.  The squares grab the paint, and some squares are just painted.2-8-12

Habitat Restore

This round piece of plywood was for sale at the Habitat store for $0.75.  I couldn’t resist, but only got two.  Now they’re gone.  They came from speaker cabinets. 2-1-12 I screwed it to the other board to work on it.  The squares are mat board, to refer to QR codes.  It isn’t taking the paint the way a flat surface would, so it’s hard to stay loose, when I keep running into edges.  But as in oils, I do better when I keep adding paint.  Now if I could only figure out how to get a pic on FB.  I’m a Luddite on dial-up.

fitting in

I know what the giraffe represents.  Someone who doesn’t fit in.  So some
