Artist's Statement
The important part of my work is painting, not
the painting. I do not have a strict plan for
how my work will
look. Focusing energy and emotions on the subject, I interrupt
the
surface of the paint to avoid strict representation. Recent
subjects are disappearing rural
architecture, abstract self portraits,
and some furious women. I want the new object,
my painting, to
resonate, not represent.
In 2009, after receiving a Regional Arts Project Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, administered
by the Arts Council of Henderson County, I did a piece called
Chemo Today.
