Artist's Statement

By focusing energy and emotions on the subject, I interrupt the surface to avoid strict representation. I want the new object, my painting, to resonate, not represent.

I grew up in San Antonio , TX., married in 1975, and still have my first husband. We have two children. We moved to North Carolina in 1997, built, and ran a B&B and llama farm. I am not one of those who was absolutely sure I was destined to be an artist. I've been a potter, jewelry designer, llama trekker, and innkeeper. Since we sold our inn in 2005, I have been able to focus on painting and writing again. We live in a rural area with a hand hewn log cabin on the property. The people who built and lived in that cabin had skills and the desire to make things. I identify with those who call themselves makers.
